Is there anything you cannot make out of clay?
In recent years, pottery has become increasingly popular, and many have discovered the joy of working with clay. Often, people associate pottery with throwing clay on a wheel to make cups, mugs, and bowls. However, there are countless other techniques to explore, such as:
Pinching – Shaping the clay by pinching it between your fingers.
Slab building – Rolling out flat sheets of clay to construct forms.
Coiling – Creating shapes by stacking rolled-out coils of clay.
Kurinuki – A Japanese technique where you carve out a solid block of clay
And many more!
In this course, we will not be using the pottery wheel. Instead, during the four Wednesday evening classes, you will be introduced to some of these techniques. After that, you will have the opportunity to experiment with them yourself and create your own unique pieces.
All your creations will be fired twice, and you will glaze them yourself in your choice of colors.
About me:
My name is Koushi. Apart from being a teacher, I love being creative in my spare time. I enjoy knitting, sewing, painting, drawing, pottery, and much more. I was introduced to pottery four years ago, and since then, I have been learning and experimenting with clay.
I find it fascinating that clay is a natural material, dug up from the earth, and can be shaped into anything you like. I love sharing my knowledge and inspiring young people to be creative with this wonderful material.
I'm looking forward to seeing you! :)
